Even though its a 'still' camera this thing is a pure-bread high-end video machine. Anyone follow this model at all? I can't believe we are seeing such amazing depth of field in video at a consumer level. Amazing.

PS don't let me jump near your SLR - my fat ass creates tsunamis! Laughing

Considering what that camera is capable of doing, it's not that expensive, relatively speaking. Still, outta my price range. Smile

Even on my crappy monitor, the color/sharpness of the vids are amazing.

It's definitely awesome to see a prosumer level camera at a reachable price go HD with video FPS adjustability. "Images can be recorded in 1080p resolution at 30 (NTSC), 25 (PAL) or 24 frames per second and in 720p mode with 60 (NTSC) or 50 (PAL) fps"

We should just bump up to a Red One! 120fps. Would mean a heck of fundraiser.

Here's what one of my photographer buddies said about the 7D:

"Yes, 7D is a nice new camera. There are a bunch of them coming out these days that shoot HD video. Canon's T1i also shoots it for about half the price and the 5D MkII for twice the price. Nikon's D5000, D90, and D300s do. Pentax, Sony, and Olympus have some cameras that do as well.

There are some limitations to what they can do, in terms of autofocus, exposure control and sound, but image wise they beat regular HD video cameras easy."

Shoot great video at 720p x 24 fps. Really nice camera. My only gripe is no autofocus once vid recording start.

I am looking at all this for long time (for the still picture side). I am not a video guy at all, but there is a lot of pressure on Nikon and Canon to produce SLR with video because the market asks for it, but so far the video are outstanding when and only when... well, no much moves --which is close to still... The lack of autofocus seems to be a real impediment. Also, when one shoots, the mirror is to be up and you have to shoot from the lcd screen --forget it on the water or in the sun. So, yes, tempting, like every new Canon coming on the market every year, but read the various reviews that are flourishing (or read the reviews about the canon 5DII that has about the same video feature) and you will see in the threads a school of thought that says "go get a real video camera that is built for that" . I would resist the temptation --plus my banker thinks the same. Best, JB-007

First movie being shot with 7D:

If someone knows how to embed that video here, do it, or let me know. I don't know how to embed vimeo.
